Plot: An English town, 18th century. Sir Tobias Mill, an English merchant, has promised the hand of his daughter Fanny to Slook,
a Canadian merchant. Fanny, however, is in love with Eduardo, and Slook helps them outwit Sir Tobias.

"La Cambiale di Matrimonio" is the first opera Rossini wrote, 18 years old.
This one act opera we placed in the 1920's. At the time that the young Rossini wrote this musical piece, immigration to the United States was common in Italy. As it is a comedy we even introduced Indians as servants.
